7th May The Government have today announced proposals to overhaul the driving test. The changes include:
A revised test format, including the option of modular assessment and partial retakes.
A change in test focus, putting less emphasis on mechanical manoeuvres and more on the ability to drive independently, for example by requiring the candidate to find the route.
There is also to be a foundation course which will lead to a qualification in safe road use.
Other ideas include post-test courses, for example in motorway use, which could cut drivers' insurance rates.
Company car drivers don't escape either, Advanced qualifications for more experienced drivers and vocational training for those who drive for work, are proposed.
The proposals are planned to come into force in 2 to 3 years time following the consultation process which ends on 8 September.
When the changes are known, Peters' Driving School will be ready to include them in our structured tuition courses.
